The Travelling Polymath

Dr Samir Mahmoud

Dr. Samir Mahmoud (he prefers just Samir) is a student of sacred knowledge, a seasoned traveller, and an experienced tour guide. Before he joined ThreePilgrims, he was the founding director of several travel initiatives that specialised in meaningful travel journeys to Italy and Spain.

In addition to his background in Islamic Studies (University of Cambridge, PhD), Samir has degrees in philosophy, art & architectural history/theory, aesthetics, psychology, politics, education, anthropology, and comparative religion (hence the polymath title bestowed upon him by friends!).

He has travelled with a coffee in one hand and a book in the other to: Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Switzerland, Syria, Egypt, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Samoa, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Australia. Nothing excites him more than a bit of historical dramatization infused with art, architecture, urbanism, classical and medieval philosophy, and comparative religion. Throw in some Renaissance philosophy, history, aesthetics, spirituality, and anthropology, and he is at home.

He is currently the Academic Director and instructor of Usul Academy (usul.academy), and is a Lecturer on the Islamic Psychology program at the Cambridge Muslim College. He is also the founding director of Cordoba Tutoring (www.cordobatutoring.com).

You can find him in Sydney, Australia, enjoying a mushroom-filled brunch or hiking overlooking the beach!
