Aikido teachers

Our dear teachers, Sensei Hakim and Senpai Shanti are both very special teachers on the Islamic spiritual path, who will demonstrate, instruct, and present on the Japanese art of Aikido.

  • M. Iman al Hakim, known as Sensei Hakim, is the youngest martial artist to hold the highest rank of 6th DAN black belt in Indonesia. He is more well-known as an Aikido teacher than an Ustadh, despite being a graduate in Tarbiyya from the Muhammadiyah Islamic University in Jakarta. His da’wah is his martial arts, a vow he made when he started his journey in Aikido (later becoming also a mureed), contributing for example, to the deradicalisation program with BNPT. He is the founder of Seekers Path Community, Aikikenkyukai Aikido Indonesia, and Al Futuwwah al Furusiyah. Today, he is actively teaching Aikido and Futuwwah through archery, meeting and inspiring people from all walks of life.

  • Shanti Indriati, also known as Senpai Shanti, is a 5th DAN black belt in Aikido, awarded from the headquarters in Japan. She is the first female martial artist to have ever reached such a high-ranking level in Indonesia. Despite her rank, she refuses to be called Sensei, as she sees herself as a life time student on the neverending path of Aikido. A full-time teacher of Aikido, with an all-female class in a madrasah in Jakarta, she inspires women around her by sharing the principles of Aikido in daily life, providing women with tools to grow and develop themselves in and through Fitrah (primordial nature).
